All teak and mahogany is harvested from renewable man-made plantations in Indonesia, as it is not available from the native forests. (Top photo is a teak plantation. Bottom photo is a mahogany plantation.) Tropical light, light heavy, and heavy hardwoods are harvested from the tropical forests, which are managed on sustainable bases. Only certain species are suitable for furniture production, which are available on request. All timber that we use is certified as having been harvested from a sustainable managed forest. Timber
Supply.... Quality grade teak and mahogany logs are sawn into fitches while maintaining maximum piece size. This prime sawn timber is then either sun or air-dried in favorable weather, or kiln dried in our own DH kiln until it reaches stable moisture limits (i.e. around 20% - 25% for teak and 12% - 15% for Mahogany depending on the species). The seasoning process (or drying) is to stabilize the timber so that doors and draws will fit precisely in place after the furniture is produced. All our fine furniture is made from the highest quality seasoned timber, which has been properly dried before carpentry work commences so you are assured of the finest quality end product. All Gelar Usaha Cemerlang timber is properly seasoned prior to production to ensure lasting quality and durability of your furniture. We also guarantee all our furniture against swelling, shrinking, and cracking for a full one year. So you can feel confident with your Gelar Usaha Cemerlang purchase.
In Indonesia, and particular in areas of Jepara - Central Java, there has long been a tradition of hand craftsmanship. For centuries, skilled cabinetmakers and carpenters have developed their trade and are fully conversant with the business of producing fine furniture for indoor and outdoor use. Some of their predominant skills include working with "tenun" (weaver) cloth, ironwork, and high quality furniture construction. What is not so readily practiced by this time-honored trade is the mass production of traditional products through mechanization? Although, good furniture is mass-produced in Indonesia, we choose to follow the traditional route. Our furniture is made by hand using modern power tools and traditional construction methods. But above all, we have introduced strict quality control to the process. The result is that we have retained the best of the traditional methods while improving the end product with more appropriate modern production techniques. Our products speak for themselves in terms of durability, quality, and style. We invite you to visit our showroom in Jepara - Central Java to see for yourself.
